Natalija Vekic
Natalija Vekic is a San Francisco-based filmmaker and installation artist. She was the recipient of the prestigious Princess Grace Award for film, and invited to participate in the 2003 Bay Area Now III show at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Her initial work as a filmmaker centered on a trilogy of fairytales. In The Sacred Heart, a German Expressionist inspired black-and-white animated short, Vekic portrays a forbidden love affair between a princess and a maiden. In The Girl with the Pearl Suspended, she creates a lushly painted fantasy with the narrative structure of a nightmare. Weeping Woman the final installment of the fairytale trilogy is in pre-production. Lost & Found, her latest short film, brings together earlier themes and preoccupations with loss into a more classical narrative form. Her films have screened at the New York Underground Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, and Mill Valley International Film Festival. Ms. Vekic recently won a Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival for her short film Lost & Found and is the recipient of a San Francisco Individual Arts Commission Grant. She is currently developing a feature film script.
